Why Cyber Security?

From dismantling toys to decoding algorithms—an introduction to the Cyber Space.

Technology has fascinated me since my childhood. While most of my childhood memories have faded, one thing remains vivid—I spent countless hours dismantling battery-operated toys to uncover their mechanisms. Any new gadget I received wasn’t just a gift; it was an invitation to explore its inner workings.

My formal introduction to technology in school only deepened this curiosity. Though I wasn’t a fan of studying theory, I loved experimenting with practical applications and then tracing my findings back to the textbook. Algorithms, in particular, came naturally to me, and without much effort, I consistently excelled in computer science.

Like many others, the COVID-19 pandemic brought about a period of uncertainty and introspection for me. Coupled with personal setbacks, I found myself in one of the lowest phases of my life, questioning my career path and sense of purpose. It was during this period of rediscovery that I reconnected with my roots in technology.

Approaching life with a binary perspective, I began addressing problems one at a time. I realized that most aspects of life lie in the “grey area” between 0 and 1. Understanding this grey area—what separates humans from robots—was a turning point for me. It became clear that I was drawn to solving complex, I was more inclined in understanding and solving the runtime errors than just to code.

I sought a field where my technical skills could intersect with psychology and problem-solving, and that’s when I found my passion for cybersecurity.

My Journey into Cyber Security

Cyber Security, I discovered, is an underrated yet rapidly advancing field, brimming with potential. I started my journey independently, diving into online resources, but soon realized the need for a structured foundation. This led me to the Indian School of Ethical Hacking, a respected institution located in the heart of the tech hub of my city.

Here, I encountered the reality of cybersecurity. It wasn’t the stereotypical image of hooded figures typing away in dark rooms with flashy "Tron-like" interfaces. Instead, it was a world of meticulous research, raw data, and a relentless pursuit of understanding and preventing digital threats.

I faced a choice: to embrace a life tethered to a computer, spending hours analyzing lines of code and patterns on a black screen filled with white, green, and red text. After careful reflection, I realized that I had found my calling in this intricate, binary world. It wasn’t just about working with black and white—I could bring my unique hues into the mix, solving problems and creating value.

Beyond the Binary: Where Data Meets Destiny

Cybersecurity isn’t just a profession for me—it’s a practice that extends into other areas of my life. Long hours of research, data analysis, and drawing insights have taught me to perceive patterns, make predictions, and even glimpse the future. It’s a blend of logic and intuition, science and art.

This journey has brought me a sense of satisfaction and serenity that’s difficult to put into words. While there’s much more to share, I’ll leave the deeper details for a face-to-face conversation—or perhaps another blog post.

For now, let’s put the pen down (or in this case give the keyboard a rest). After all, my story is still being written, and I have miles to go before I sleep.
